Nosferatta Lendragon is the most powerful person on Sapience. The Summa of Sapience is the caretaker of the land, elected by the Vates who are responsible for guiding all of Sapience to a good and prosperous future. Nosferatta has held onto power for the last three decades, and is showing no signs of slowing down yet. She likes to play favorites among the Sacerdos and Mystas, and has quite a bit of power over the Vates. Nosferatta is a stern yet mostly fair ruler, who punishes the villages that don't obey her laws first with taxation and then with ancestral curses. Shunning a family or even a whole village is a bloodless yet cruel way of ruining a person: once they're shunned, no one is able to speak to them without being hit by the curse. The longer they stay in a place, the worst their luck becomes, and those who are shunned are often chased out of their homes once their luck really starts to go bad. Those who are shunned are remarkably lucky as long as they don't stay in a place longer than a day/night.
Jedidiah Kazairen is a highly skilled operative who was active on the field for the first ten years of his career. He rose to power the traditional way, by gaining in rank and commendations from his superior officers. The Order Caste is the only caste that uses the common language for their rank titles. This was done to help facilitate communication between caste members and civilians, but the inner workings of the caste are done in their caste exclusive language: Swedish. It's against Order Law for civilians to be taught even the basics of the language, and being in possession of any of their literature means instant death for any civilian who's caught with it. Their ranks and qualifications are tattooed into their skin, along the inside of every caste member's left wrist.
Krane Owley is the seventh generation in his family to maintain control of the Life Caste. Theirs is a very secretive group with the simplest public ranking system of all the castes. They claim to be a place of opportunity, where knowledge is power, but the only way to reach higher than a Sage is to learn how to play the complex political games and gain access to the right secret guilds embedded in the caste leadership. The Des Crânes Guild, for example, is just a rumor among the Life Caste; a secret society that all Médecin are said to be part of. It doesn't really exist, no matter that nearly all practicing Médecin wear the same skull ring on their right index fingers...
Elizabeth Bathory is the third of her family name to lead the Creation caste and is very public about the fact that no other family shall do as much. She's actually created a competition between her twin children to see exactly who is going to take her place when she decides to step down. Though that's not going to be happening anytime in the near future as far as she is concerned. Many don't share the same thoughts as Elizabeth as to just how vital her caste is, but she's assured Sapience that without Creation...they'd all be doomed.
Drake Slaughter is the first of his family's name to lead the Death caste. Joining the ranks at a young age he fought his way up the ranks until finally taking over as it's leader forcibly. Since his rise to the top he's run the caste with higher standards than previous leaders may have had. Though for the right amount of coin...there's nothing he or his people will not do. He's gone so far as to allow those within the caste to have their own sets of principals on the types of marks they will take, and what they won't. It's that respect that has the Death caste running smoother than it ever has before.
Madigan Sawyer has his fingers in all kinds of illegal pies. He rose to power after his homeland was decimated by the Sundering, becoming what is known as the Wastelands today. The underground world the survivors now live in has become the unofficial capital of the Trade caste, although they maintain a strong presence in key cities around the world: dominating the main trade routes on both land and sea. Although he maintains a strongly pro-restoration position in public, Madigan is secretly working to ensure the Wastelands is never turned right side up again. The mining alone has been hugely profitable for him and his men since the Sundering.
